The Craft started in the 8th century AD., made in the Ilkal region of the Bagalkot district of Karnataka, known for its durability and comfortableness as compared to other types of sarees because of the fine quality yarns used, with the best tensile strength to withstand the traditional pit loom weaving technique.
The Significant Distinction Of Ilkal Saree Is The Pure Silk Pallu Which Is Weaved Separately And Attached To The Body Warp By Interlocking Series Of Loops, Locally Called As Tope Teni Technique Which Also Increases The Saree Length To 9 Meters.
